Tyne Tees Damp Proofing Ltd were asked to perform a Woodworm Survey, as the residents of this historic stone house in Newcastle Upon Tyne, suspected that they had a live woodworm infestation in their loft.

What did our Woodworm Inspection Specialists find?

We sent along our specialist Woodworm Surveyors to carry out the survey and report back any findings in a detailed Woodworm report.

Upon our inspections, we found that there was indeed an active Woodworm infestation of anobium punctatum (common furniture beetle) to the loft areas.

The Common Furniture Beetle is the most common type of woodworm in the UK. They are typically found in softwood such as pine and spruce, but can also infest hardwood. Adult beetles lay their eggs on or near the surface of the wood. The larvae bore into the wood and feed on the cellulose, leaving behind a network of tunnels. They can cause significant damage to furniture, and can affect the structural ability of floors, and roof timbers if left untreated.

How did we solve the Woodworm infestation?

We always use the latest high tech systems to combat the woodworm – even in areas which are inaccessible, but still needed to be treated.

We carried out the following works in order to treat the woodworm infestation to this property.

• Removed loft insulation and set aside to permit access to the roof base timbers.
• Carried out treatment for the eradication of woodworm infestation using our specialist Electronic aerosol micro spray system which allows the work to be carried out with minimum disruption to the customer. Treatment by electo-aerosol allows the chemical to permeate all connected voids with extremely high surface coverage even to remote areas.
• Replaced the loft insulation quilt.
• Treated all roof timbers and ceiling studs to the loft area for the woodworm infestation.
• The woodworm treatment we used is specifically formulated for the eradication of common furniture beetle (anobium punctatum) and other wood boring insects.

What was the final outcome and benefit to the customer?

Another successful outcome and another happy customer who was very pleased with the work we carried out and also because they have peace of mind as our Woodworm treatments are fully guaranteed.
