What was the problem as identified by our customer?

Our customer, who was from Blyth, Northumberland got in touch with Tyne Tees Damp Proofing as they had ‘black mould, mildew and condensation’ issues within their terraced house.

What did our Mould and Condensation Inspection Specialists find?

Our Mould and Condensation Inspection Specialists found black spot mould within a number of rooms in the upstairs section of the house. The black spot mould was found in multiple bedrooms and the bathroom.

There were areas of low temperatures on the walls, due to the poor insulation values of the brick walls, and as there was a lack of ventilation and air movement with the property this created dew points which allowed excess moisture to settle which is the prime environment for black mould to form.

There was also evidence of condensation on the windows inside of the property.

How did we solve the mould, mildew & condensation?

In order to solve the the customer’s mould and condensation issues we supplied and installed a Positive Input Ventilation system into the loft area. This system introduces continuous fresh air into the property and also forces the stale damp air out of the property via natural leakage points such as letter boxes, key holes, trickle vents in windows, cat flaps, gaps and cracks around doors, windows and floors.

As the system creates a positive pressure air flow inside the property, this reduces humidity levels by ensuring any air with excessive moisture does not settle in areas which are potential dew points which can then lead to the formation of black mould.

What was the final outcome and benefit to the customer?

The installation of the Positive Input Ventilation system (PIV), sometimes known as a Positive Pressure Ventilation Unit (PPU) has lead to a drier environment within the property which has greatly decreased the chance of black spot mould and condensation forming within the terraced property.
